ThinkBefore ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use the ThinkBefore app and Chrome extension.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the service:

Purchase decisions: the price, item name, and your decision (buy or skip) that you enter manually.
Salary / income: the monthly income you enter to calculate work-hours. Stored locally on your device only.
Wishlist items: items you save for later review, stored locally.
Account information: if you sign in via Google or email, we store your email address and display name to identify your account.

We do not collect browsing history, financial credentials, or any information you have not explicitly entered into the app.

2. How We Use Your Information

To display your personal spending history and savings statistics.
To calculate the number of work hours equivalent to a purchase price.
To show progress toward your savings goals.
To sync your data across devices if you are signed in (via Firebase).

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Data Storage

Your data is stored in two places depending on your usage:

Locally on your device: via chrome.storage.local (Chrome extension) or your browser's local storage (web app). This data never leaves your device unless you are signed in.
Firebase (Google Cloud): if you create an account, your decision history and settings are stored securely in Firebase Firestore, hosted in the European Union. Firebase complies with GDPR.

4. Chrome Extension Permissions

The ThinkBefore Chrome extension requests the following permissions:

storage: to save your salary and preferences locally on your device.
activeTab / scripting: to detect when you visit an e-commerce product page and display the ThinkBefore banner.
host permissions (shopping sites): limited to known shopping domains to detect product prices. We do not read any other page content.

The extension does not track your browsing history and does not send any page data to our servers.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Firebase (Google): authentication and database. Firebase Privacy Policy
Google Fonts: to load fonts used in the interface. Google Privacy Policy

6. Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app settings. Data stored locally on your device can be cleared by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser storage.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union, you have the following rights:

Right of access: you can request a copy of your personal data.
Right to rectification: you can correct inaccurate data.
Right to erasure: you can request deletion of your data at any time.
Right to portability: you can export your decision history as CSV directly from the app.

8. Children's Privacy

ThinkBefore is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of ThinkBefore after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
